BollyCat's Bollywood - Plagiarism, Sex, Songs & Random Gossip!

BollyCat.com follows the 3 things that sell Bollywood: Songs, Plagiarism & Sex. Because when scantilly clad women dance to a Bollywood song in a movie that have most of it's story lifted from a Hollywood flick, you get Bollywood! And yes, we also randomly engage in masala gossip.

Speed a bollycat of Cellular & Nick of Time

Director Vikram Bhatt's
career is largely enthused with Hollywood rip-offs and after countless
failures, this release simply adds to the list. It's a classical
example where a filmmaker's amateurish attempt of rehashing couple of
Hollywood flicks has gone berserk. 'Speed' is a shameful imitation from
Hollywood's fast paced action packed thriller 'Cellular' in its first
half, while its plot and climax in the second half get its inspiration
from another Hollywood hit 'Nick of Time' (which was earlier, rehashed with mediocre results in Shahrukh Khan's 'Badshah').

Firstly, why the film was
titled "Speed" when there is no relevance of word "speed" either with
its plot, theme or characters? After illogically envisaged 'Red', it's
another flick from Vikram Bhatt which has English title to lure urban
viewers but shows no relevance with the subject or concept of the film.

Mujhse Shaadi Karogi a bollycat of Anger Management & Meet the Parents

15 submitters noted this to be a BollyCat of Anger Management, 6 said it copied Meet the Parents, while another 7 suggested that it ripped off both of those. Based on these numbers, we can safely conclude that the movie is a mish-mosh of the two originals. Additionally one person suggested that the father of the bride character in MSK was based on Steve Martin's role in Father of the Bride. Being a David Dhavan movie and the fact that the Steve Martin character and Robert De Niro's Jack in Meet the Parents shared similarities of their own, we don't really doubt that.

Anyway, the protagonist is our BollyCat definitely has an "anger" problem. But we guess what really makes this a BollyCat is the final scene where the guy proposes to his girlfriend at a <strike>baseball</strike> cricket game. But according to our submitters, there's plenty of stuff in between directly lifted from Anger Management. Remember the scene where Ben Stiller breaks the urn at the dinner table? Well the same scene is in MSK.

We'll summarize this by quoting one of our submitters, "Take the story from 'Anger Management', add a few comedy scenes from 'Meet the parents', include a few beautiful and well-shot songs and what to you have? 'Mujhse Shaadi Karoge'."

The story is about a woman who receives an eye transplant that allows her to see into the supernatural world. Here's what one of our submitters, Nitin Kumar Gupta, had to say about this BollyCat:

"Frame by frame, scene by scene, dialog by dialog copy. Even the characters have been made up to look as close to the original movie characters as possible. Small props like staplers haven't been spared and even the smallest jokes have been copied. The movie looks like someone did a Hindi dubbing of the original and replaced the faces of the actors using a computer. They have shamelessly given themselves credit for plot, screenplay, dialogues, art design, music etc when everything has been lifted from the original Hong Kong movie. A disgrace to Indian movie makers and cinema."

Partner... Why not Ajay, Kumar or Salman? Wouldn't that be more befitting for this Hitch copy? Anyway, as far the two movies are concerned, they both follow a dating
guru who guarantees a girl for losers like Govinda or Kevin James. Added is the usual pinch of song and dance according to taste.

But there's another thing that's seems unworldly for this case: Hollywood is actually suing - or thinking about suing - the makers of Partner. We believe this is a major shift in Hollywood's policy towards unofficial Bollywood remakes. And the biggest reason is Bollywood's ever growing market overseas. Think about it, Sony would make much more money (they're making nothing now!) if the the producers of Partner had actually paid Sony to do a remake, or better yet Sony Pictures India had done it on it's own? That's a no brainer. We don't really expect Bollywood producers to touch their ears and stop
copying just yet though... I mean there are so many good Hollywood
movies they are looking forward to <strike>copying</strike> watching.

Hat tip: Curry Bear & Jerry M.

The two would enter Nisha's make-up van and come out only after 2-3 hours. This happened for 4 to 5 consecutive days, resulting in a delay in shooting of the climax of the movie by four days."
Mahima doing a boob push-up?

This is a rare scene in Bollywood, and it actually might be a first. Mahima Chaudry looks pretty mad in this clip, and she's probably headed over to take revenge on the bad guys for killing her family or boy friend. But this is not your regular Hollywood-style pushup, it's a tamed down lower-your-collar version of it. And here's something we didn't know: according to a comment on the MetaCafe video page, she's a "call girl" @ $1,200.00 a night... not bad!
