Naina a bollycat of The Eye
"Jian Gui" or "The Eye" came out in 2002, and then in 2005 came out "Naina" or... you guessed it... "The Eye". The story is about a woman who receives an eye transplant that allows her to see into the supernatural world. Here's what one of our submitters, Nitin Kumar Gupta, had to say about this BollyCat:
"Frame by frame, scene by scene, dialog by dialog copy. Even the characters have been made up to look as close to the original movie characters as possible. Small props like staplers haven't been spared and even the smallest jokes have been copied. The movie looks like someone did a Hindi dubbing of the original and replaced the faces of the actors using a computer. They have shamelessly given themselves credit for plot, screenplay, dialogues, art design, music etc when everything has been lifted from the original Hong Kong movie. A disgrace to Indian movie makers and cinema."
Interestingly enough, Hollywood is also doing a remake of "Jian Gui" called, yet again, "The Eye", coming out in 2008. But you know what the difference between Naina and this Hollywood production is? Hollywood is actually crediting (and paying) Jo Jo Yuet-chun Hui the screenwriter for the original in the writing credits.
Thanks to Aditya, George Thomas, Ashutosh, Bootham, Mayura, Akshay Gupta, Nitin Kumar Gupta, Vikas Bhatt, Ashesh, & Umang Doshi for letting us know about this eye-catcher!
