Mother India a bollycat of The Good Earth

| | Comments (4)

This BollyCat (known at the Indian 'Gone with the Wind') is reported everytime a Bollywood paper does a story on plagiarism in Bollywood. So we thought we might include this as well, since so many people refer to this as the "original" Bollywood.

So as they say, "Mother India" (no need to translate this title!) had "shades" of Pearl S Buck's classic, The Good Earth.

Here's what one sane reviewer had to say about this BollyCat at IMDb.com, "...for this viewer it seems less a "classic" and more a prime example of how Indian audiences have been traditionally willing to submit to films that are routinely as long as those blockbusters that bombarded our roadshow houses back in the late Fifties through the 1960s."

And yes, you can still keep loving it.

Mother India was nominated for oscars. It is one of the greatest movie ever made. Now if u have no job and skill then u can go take a hike. I understand that u know nothing else but to hurt people. So do that. U really need help man. Hey, have u heard that a pakistani director wanted to take Julia Roberts in his movie. What a joke. It took julia roberts less than a minute to refuse. She didn't even thought about it. Now that shows the reputation of a country and its film industry

So does a Bollywood film qualify as a remake even if it's based on a novel? "The Good Earth" was orignally a Pulitzer prize winning novel, a pretty boring one at that.
