Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar a bollycat of Breaking Away
Saurabh submitted this one explaining that "both the movies revolve around small town folks who are being sidelined and mocked by rich people who are from outta town. The protagonist follows one of these rich girls, trying to impress her with his false 'rich guy' identity till the truth about him comes out.. then the bicycle race at the end where the town folks have their revenge... not a bad movie but still a copy..."
Gaurang adds that the movie is about a renegade townie winning a cycle race against out of towner affluent competitor. As usual the Hindi movie had lot a of relatives, friends, even songs shot in slow-mo. But it was more of a coming of age movie. He adds that "Aamir Khan was excellent."
Pankaz notes that "it's easy to see how heavily this movie borrows from 'Breaking Away'."
Thanks also to Uma Sheth, Mansoor Murad, Inirs for submitting "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar" (Whoever Wins is Alexander).
Btw, "Breaking Away" won the Oscar for Best Screenplay at the '79 Academy Awards.

This is rare case of both the orignal and the remake being excellent films. I had a chance to see "Breaking Away" 6 years ago and really loved it. Being a huge fan of JJWS already, I found Mansoor Khan's take on the film to be just as good, if not more entertaining.
Mansoor Khan has never really written an orignal script in his life. But the treatment that he gives to his inspirations is unique and sometimes produces exceptional results as is evidenced by JJWS and even Akele Hum Akele Tum in which Aamir Khan gave a spellbindingly mature performance.
Copy or not, JWS did have its moments-very nicely done and the unforgetabble 'Pehla Nasha' song.
Copying is an art afterall !
