Hera Pheri a bollycat of The Sting

| | Comments (15)

This Prakash Mehra directed movie was not very different from it's original, starring Robert Redford and Paul Newman. The story (there's only one here!) follows two conmen, one experience and one a rookie. They are brought together when a mob boss kills a mutual friend, and team up to get even by pulling off "the big con" on the mob boss.

Update [5/20/05]: Since BollyCat.com's launch in February, we has listed this movie to be Hera Pheri [2000]. We would like to apologize for this mistake, because the actual BollyCat that should have been here is Hera Pheri [1976]. We believe this was due to a conspiracy of Bollywood directors.

Do you even watch these movies? Hera Pheri is a remake of a South Indian film by the same director, Priyadarshan. Frickin retards.

ok. haven't seen the sting, so can't promise that hera pheri isn't 'inspired'... but i do know that the direct sourcing for hera pheri is the malayalam film ramji rao speaking, of which it's a pretty faithful version. almost line by line in fact. so i'm sorry, hollywood isn't the only place that people steal stuff from.. and hera pheri actually credits siddique lal, who wrote/directed the malayalam. btw priyadarshan films are a wonderful place to start when u're on about 'inspired' films, cos all his hindi ones have been (credited) copies of malayalam films. hulchul(godfather), hungama(poochakkoru mukkutti), yeh tera ghar yeh mera ghar(sanmanassullavarkkusamasamadhanam) and even saat rang ke sapne (tenmaavinkombathu), so enjoy. even if that info doesn't interest u. :)

thats ridiculous, hera pheri is a remake from a gujrati play, ths sting is makeup to con a mob boss.. the guys are in sting are conmen, the ppl in hera pheri are simple ppl.

Please dont add movies for the heck of it .. lets keep this sacred space clean.

This entry sucks. There is no way anyone can logically think of Hera Pheri as a copy of The Sting. It would serve your purpose better to see the movies before making comparisons. In your zeal to denounce everything that comes out of Bollywood, you seem to have stopped caring about facts.

If you are even the least bit concerned about the credibility of this site, remove this entry..

this is rediculous.how u can say that herapheri is a copy of sting.baby come out of ur dirty mentality to make bollywood a copycat. how abt ur pakistani film industry.they even dont change the complete name.see indian movie raja hindustani they make raja pakistani.shame on u

This one is very vague, I have seen 'The Sting' and there is no resemblance of any kind between these two movies, even the plot is entirely different. If such comparisons are included, the public would be forced to believe that you are conducting a malicious campaign to harm Indian movies in a deliberate manner.

whats wrong with you indians? there is an old film called hera pheri starring amitabh bachchan, thats what the writer is reffering to, dont you indians know anything? check the situation before opening your mouths, just because we have a far superior record in cricket than you, doesnt mean you should be bitter about pakistanis so much.
