Dil Chahta Hai a bollycat of St. Elmo's Fire

how stupid can u get my friend?? just because the movie features a romance between a couple with age difference it doesnt mean its a "copy" or in this case not even an inspiration.

i am not saying hindi movies are all original..we all know they are not .but trying to say its a copy just so that you can add a name in ur list is so ridiculous.. i wonder if you hve even seen both the movies

OK, this is quite a stretch. The fact that it has taken this long for an Indian filmaker to address the lives of upscale urban kids is simply due to the fact that the Indian equivalent of the social strata shown in St.Elmo's Fire and Reality Bites is a more recent phenomenon to hit mass consciousness. DCH may not have the most orignal of ideas, but it certainly isn't inspired by any Hollywood film. It's perhaps a testament to its freshness that it is still considered to be a yuppie favourite 4 years later.

Faaaaak man, you got some imagination! You should seriously give up whatever you are trying to do in the US and return to Bollywood... I am pretty sure that with this kind of "Building castles in the air" attitude, you will make one helluva writer... but then some time later some other dumbfark kid like you will turn up to tell you that your movie is a copy just cos the third letter in the title is similar. I am not justifying bollywood's remakes -- Class comparison is Akele Hum Akele Tum which even ripped posters off Kramer vs Kramer and Sleepless in Seattle. But DCH same as St Elmo just coz is is urban rich kids... You need to get a life... and fast, otherwise you are going to be so far gone...

I really don't understand how Haydur's opinions about a bunch of Hindi films have anything to do with this supposed racial jealousy. I'm quite appalled to find that this site is being visited by close minded Indians who would rather hurl abuses at him than just read and move on. All this site does is offer commentary on a handful of films that have blatantly crossed the line of plaigarism. There are so many great Indian movies that are not listed on this site. And for good reason!

dil chahtha hai is copied from several sources. indian filmmakers have a supreme ability -- they never copy just 1 film they copy from 100's. about dil chahtha hai.
the whole preity-aamir romance is from dead poets society where knox loves the girl whos going out with an idiot tough guy. the tough guy beats up knox just as aamir gets beaten up.
later knox takes the girl to a shakespeare play and thats where their romance begins. ditto with dil chahtha hai. only here the shakespeare play is troillus and cressida instead of a midsummers nights dream.

also the shot where aamir is standing near the escalator in the tanhaaee song and the world is passing by him in speeded motion is copied from wong kar wai's chungking express. the shot idea is identically lifted.

Cannot really work out how this is an "inspired" movie. I mean, some ideas seem to be similar, but thats not what "inspiration" is. Most of the similarities pointed out seem to coincidental or artistic license at best. Sorry Sameer, No idea what you are talking about.

it is also a bollycat of 1997,s OCEAN TRIBE. It is a very nice movie about friendship in a group.I seen that movie.

seriously some ppl have such narrow thinking they cannot open their minds to new views ,opinions.the guy has clearly mentioned that it is not a frame to frame copy but the plotis similar and some things r altered for indian audiences .
