Black a bollycat of The Miracle Worker

| | Comments (41)

The first half of this movie is reportedly a scene-by-scene copy of the 1962 double-Oscar winning classic. The only main difference, like so many other listed BollyCats is that the sex of one of the characters (Anne Sullivan) has been change to create the typical Bollywood male-female setup.

Actually this is false. the first half is also different because the female teacher in the miracle worker was herself half blind while amitabh is not half blind, furthermore, the story is based on the life of hellen keller so it cant be a copy of a movie, its a copy of a true life story

VERY GOOD - VERY GOOD , I LIKE THE POINT. I WANT TO SAY SOMETHING TO ALL WHO COMES TO THIS SITE- IN BOLLYWOOD NEW RELEASE MEANS ANOTHER COPY OF AN ENGLISH MOVIE - EVERY FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this is unfair. The director tells that its Helen Keller's life inspiration.Maybe its inspired from her biography. Its like saying MIB is a copy of ALIEN movie because its about aliens,as absurd a claim as that. And if all you want to do is to show the hindi movie industry down, there are more in the list.Moghal-e-azam,anarkali are both copies.Devdas are copies of two previous versions.Hum dil de chuke sanam is a copy of woh saath din etc etc.kid grow up.If you are learned and have presented technical papers ,you would know that all ideas are inspired from some others but still the idea is original.thats what is the case here too.Btb Alexander movie is a copy of a south indian movie cause the story is the same.Best of luck for your great site.thanks

Ashwin said:

stop all this crap. The fact is that BLACK is a much better made movie than its so called hollywood counterpart. In fact most of the copied films are better remakes of those so called original movies.

moyal said:

As expected. Pakistan has no jobs and technology. So this person is trying to make money somehow. Yo, if u want u can go on a railway station and start begging, that would be better way of making money than this creepy website.

Critic said:

Black is dedicated to and based on the life of Helen Keller. You guys are insane. How wouldnt be though? After all, all you got is non existent entertainment industry and we, Indians, have a thriving one. Keep up the jealousy.

Arpit said:

I am an Indian. And I still think it is a real bad pathetic practice to copy hollywood movies...and if done so I think they should be given due credit. And frankly I feel Black was a bad movie...forget the copying or no copying shit. It was a desperate attempt to make the audience cry. But then everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And why was Rani Mukherji walking like Charlie Chaplin??

baba said:

hey ,
listen arpit and haydur.. let me firs t deal with arpit.. i mean the point y she was walking like charlie chaplin is that sometime ppl who are blind and deaf .. they try to walk in way to feel more balanced... and u cann see ppl walking in that posture who can not see...

anyways the point is lets say today i was inspired by gandhi .. and try to create a person similar to gandhi in 1960 and then somebody makes it in 2010 ... would u say that it was a copy or cheating ... i mean the point ... SLB has not done this movie for fame or making money .. i mean y would he copy .. when u personally say that it makes the audience cry ... i would even accept a movie like black which is a copy of true story and get inspired ...rather than going for something like veer zaara which in a sense is original but doesnt make any sense in the end...

I guess sometime u should the see the intricacies of the character .. look at ayesha amitabh rani... they have gone thru a long pain ..not to make a commercial movie but something which is for those disabled and the community around .. to give them spirit .... a sense of fighting spirit ..

and atlast one more point .. i guess 70 percent of incidences in ur life are probably inspired .. i m not against the fact that bollywood have done a complete ripp off in the past .. but please think twice throwing mud over a GEM .. A MASTERPIECE.. I m not just talking about Black .. there other movies about whom u have written shit.. i would personally like to see a apology of sorts .. which might cool down the angry comments on ur site.. and ya guys lets not make it a india pakistan issue .. we have other forums on the internet for it .. but please haydur .. atleast dont be ridiculous before giving comments....
thanks

amir said:

ok guys i`m also indian and noticed that MANY of the MOvies on this site listed as copies of Hollywood Movies are not(Kuch Kuch Hota HAI,Lagaan...etc)

BUT BLACK IS A COPY
NOT JUST INSPIRED OR BASED ON THE LIFE OF HELLEN KELLER But and ACTUAL COPY of The Miracle worker.
now most of u who are doubting this all i can ask is "HAVE U SEEN BOTH MOVIES(Black and The Miracly worker)? cause The miracle worker is a very old movie(and in black and white)
if u`ve seen it then THERE`S NO WAY YOU CAN SAY THAT BLACK ISN`T A COPY.

Black goes it`s own way from the point where the little girl grows up(where she becomes Rani:)
so i guess i`ll give it credit the last part(about the last 45minutes or so)

in the Moracle worker when the MOther found out that the Baby was Deaf and Blind she was Snapping her Fingers the EXACT SAME WAY as the mother in Black.

in the Moracle worker there was that seen where the little girl accidentally thre her baby sister out of the cradle and then the father started beating her(exactly as it happened in Black)

In Black while it wasn`t Made clear that Amitabh was Half Blind we know there was something wrong with his eyes(the part with the eye drps when we first see him kinda gives it away)

then came the Table/Dinner Scene
wher she was taking food from everyone`s plate across the table but Amitabh wouldn`t let her take form His,
NOW IF AFTER LOOKING AT THIS SCENE AND STILL SAYING THIS MOVIE IS NOT A COPY THENYOIU`RE PRETTY Mucn in Denial or a Bollywood Fanboy.

and finally came the Breakthrough Scese, this in Black was outside near the POND WHEN all hope had seem to be lost the little girl finally came through and started knowing everything(Water,Grass..etc)
This again happend the exact same way in Miracle worker.

at this point Miracle worker ends.
but Black being a Bollywood film the Milked it a little more and kept going(obviously this is where she grew up and pretty much the only original part of the movie)

so to sum up the First half0three quarter of black is a Direct copy of The Miraly worker as Murder is a Direct copy of Unfaithful.

if anyone wants to dout this then please look at the moracly worker first and then say something.

...I heard somebody saying that Bhansali didnt make this movie for profit.....oh!! gimme a break.....Sanjay Bhansali is anothet creatively deprived gujju shopkeeper.....dont expect a marwari, gujju or a panju to be creative and to do something without expectation of any material returns.....these communities are highly materialistic and decietful....they know how to hype their mediocre products...I am not discussing the originality of "Black" but I know for certain that it was a desperate attemtp by a mediocre and superficial shopkeeper to appear intellectual, deep and egalitarian......those who are impressed are probably unable to see thru things

black is not a copy of any other muvie.it is based on the life of hellen kellar

This site might be run by an ass and who ever the hell he/she is but that at all does not mean that the person is trying to critisize Indian movies. The webmaster is only giving to reference that most bollywood movies are inspired from other International movies. So shut the hell up. Internet is used for reference. Bottom line is if you like it take it or else shut up and mind ur own business.

I love indian movies and watch it a lot even though i dont live in India and personally i am a big fan of Indian movies but the truth still remains unchanged. Most indian movies are inspired from other movies and IT'S FACT WHEATHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT

I wouldn't have acted in this movie if i knew it was a copy.

I Agree... bollywood movies are Trash..most of them are copied...instead of saying Pakis r jealous or make them look bad cos they created this site, we shud thank them for exposing bollywood shitty directors...AND YES BLACK WAS BELOW AVERAGE MOVIE...BHANSALI ALWAYS TRIES TO CREATE LARGER THAN LIFE CHARACTERS AND SETS...NO INTELLECTUAL INPUT OR CREATIVITY...

rajesh said:

Helo MR xxx cause i dont know ur name. Can you find a match to Amitabh bachan (in black) in whole of the Hollywood?? We are proud that Amitabh is Indian. I bet pakistan can never produce an actor like amitabh so better stop this foolish site and try to find out mistakes in ur country i mean pakistan movies(does any one see those films??!) Think about it

Aman said:

Black is more emotional than The Miracle Worker.

satya said:

Guys,
Read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helen_Keller

"The Miracle Worker, a play about how Helen Keller learned to communicate, was made into a movie three times. The 1962 version of the movie won Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Anne Bancroft who played Sullivan and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Patty Duke who played Keller."

So if Black is based on hellen keller's life, then it is bound to have shades of miracle worker. Btw, i havent seen both movies. :-)

Devdas said:

Frineds one thing which i'd like to tell u that Sanjay Leela Bhansali always told that he just remake the movies wheather of Bollywood or of Hollywood. So plz avoid tounting on S.L.Bhansli.

jg said:

every fucking thing in the movie is hollywood inspired right from the costumes to the sets...bhansali has put nothing INDIAN in this movie.
amitabhs acting was unrealistic,over
the top..
bhansali cannot make a movie with simple, down to earth chaaracters living in a realistic world..

postit said:

Well, the point is not if it's good to imitate (or be inspired if you want to call it!!) or not, but to acknowledge the fact.
It is unethical to simply take someone else's idea and reap the fame as your own. SLB did that, as do many other filmmakers in bollywood.
Sort of shows us down doesn't it ?? create, but do so in a dignified way !!

why are people going on about pakis this and pakis that, at the end of the day it doesn't matter if this site was started by a paki or an indian, bolly films have copied some plots of hollywood movies, but they are extremly popular not only with indians but also with most pakis

Rishi said:

The purpose of Bollycat, according to the title, is to chronicle plagiarism in India's Bollywood movies.

Of course, you realise that a director who is inspired by a real-life story (and credits it as such) is not plagiarising, yes?

This has been your English lesson for today.

Class dismissed!

Since Black is based off the story of Helen Keller, similarities are bound to pop up. But a scene-for-scene copy? Not in the least.

Ammm..Sanjay has himself said that he was inspired from The miracle worker..there is no harm in a remake, even his Sawariya is remake of a Russian short story, but is a mix of Helen's life, miracle worker, bolly masala, and that is what i have a problem with,if you are basing your movie on a real charecter, make it true to the charecter, dont alter facts, put unneccessary drama just to lure in audience and then say im not doing it for profit!i have seen miracle worker and also read Helen's biography, the movie is true to the book...as it should be.
